Its quite normal for me to not take in the content of the morning news as soon as I have woken, but I realy could not belive my ears this morning....The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, told the BBC today that the application of Sharia (Islamic law) in Britain "seems unavoidable". This would entail lashing for fornication and amputation for theft!!!!!!!!
This sad, overly hairy, little man needs to take his meds and be booted out of office immiediatly!! Well in my opinion anyway!
Sharia means literally the road to a watering place: a clear path to be followed. It is translated as "law", but it governs without restriction, as an infallible doctrine of duties, the whole of the religious, political, social, domestic and private life of those who profess Islam. Belive me when I say I know as I have traveled in many Muslim countries (some of my favorite countries are Muslim I hasten to add) and worn a headscarf and heard the call to prayer...But to have a man in such a high office to say that Muslim law should be used in the British legal system is absolutly bonkers! For one thing most decent law biding citizens will be outraged, and I would go so far as to say I think British Muslims would be very embarraced by Dr Williams comments...Sharia punishments include cutting off body parts (heads, hands, feet, fingers etc) stoning to death, and also female circumstision!!...How would extreme punishments and bad treatment of women be prevented where the jurisdiction of Sharia was recognised? In Islam Sharia is the law of God as revealed in the Koran and through the behaviour and words of Mohammed...also drinking and smoking are huge no, no's in Muslim society and hugly frowned upon if its a woman seen drinking and smoking (I have had some funny looks I can tell you!) and even when alcohol is available its sold to you under the counter with the bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag!!!! Now I don't want to sound too extream about all this, but think about it for a second??...??....First we have the smoking ban (Muslims are anti - smoking)...next the Archbishop is sprouting his mouth off that we should integrate Sharia with the British legal system....and now I look into my crystal ball and suddenly see a George Orwell style 1984 society!!...Oh and what made it worse was Dr Williams actually admitted that he dosent know much about Sharia law!!!! and I quote:
**"I don’t know enough about the detail of the law in the Islamic law in this context," Dr Williams said, "I’m simply saying that there are ways of looking at marital dispute for example within discussions that go on among some contemporary scholars which provide an alternative to the divorce courts as we understand them."***
Well my advice would be...go and live in a Muslim country!!! Read the Khoran, and understand the laws of this religion, and the punishments your talking about!!! and then come back and say the same thing....I don't think so!!
